To Kansas Field 80 Years After Crashrockne memorial
Eight decades after the plane crash that claimed the lives of legendary Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne and seven others, about 200 people gathered at the crash site in the Flint Hills of Kansas to commemorate their lives. It was the first such major commemoration since the passing of James Easter Heathman, who as a 12-year-old farm boy came upon the site minutes after the March 31, 1931 crash.
